About Interbeing Denmark

Founded by Lay Practitioners

Mindful living in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh has been practiced in Denmark for over 30 years.
With Interbeing Denmark we aspire to water a community across Sanghas, supporting local Sanghas to form and create joint practice opportunities, study groups, Days of Mindfulness, retreats etc. Many new wonderful Sanghas has formed around the country who provide local space and community for the practice. We aspire to create solid foundation for the Plum Village community to build and grow. In harmony with the practice and in a pace that we are able to go in with practice and study opportunities with Dharma teachers, local lay OI members/aspirants. This also to support community members who want to commit deeper to the practice trough the Five Mindfulness Trainings.

We are a group of lay practitioners who officially registered an association (forening) together, and we are fortunate to have spiritual guidance and support by our local monk,
Thay Phap Tru, who is one of the Dharma Teachers from the Plum Village lineage and also from EIAB (European Institute of Applied Buddhism) in Germany.

Interbeing Denmark was founded by four Lay practitioners, in the picture from left below in: Helen Li, Marie Hauge, Dorthe Paaske and Nghuyen Minh. The founding was celebrated with The Wake Up monks and nuns visiting Denmark from Plum Village.

Since the creation of our association more and more Sangha seeds has sprouted around Denmark and we have had the opportunity to host retreats on Danish Soil. Next retreat is in the summer of 2026, where you will have the opportunity to receive the Five Mindfulness Trainings.

Many community members have chosen to practice the Five Mindfulness Trainings and we now also have new ordained members of the Order of Interbeing and new aspirants on the path.
